Want to offset some of the cost of your Holiday Shopping this year? (but don’t really want to work for it- yeah, I don’t either)

Here are 10 ways to earn free gift cards with minimal effort (my favorite kind of effort)

1. Swag Bucks

Swagbucks lets you earn “Swag bucks” or points for your internet searches (like Google), taking polls, finding swag codes and more. You redeem these points for Freebies- including gift cards. Probably my personal fave!  You can get more details on Swagbucks here

2. My Points

I have actually been a MyPoints Member for a couple of years….if you love to online shop, I recommend checking it out…
Just Complete a short form and activate your account by clicking on activation email to receive coupons and savings offers. You can also earn Points for shopping online, reading email, playing games, and taking surveys. You then can Redeem your Points for gift cards. You can find out more here

3. Disney Movie Rewards

Disney Movie Rewards is a great way to earn freebies including gift cards. You just enter the special codes found on Disney DVDs and Blu Rays. DMR also releases codes via their member email, twitter and facebook pages too on occasion. You use those points towards goodies. You can sign up for free here

4. Recycle Bank

RecycleBank partners with cities and haulers to reward households for recycling. Households earn RecycleBank Points that can be used to shop at over 1,500 local and national businesses. Earn RecycleBank Points good for all kinds of green actions…and you are rewarded for doing so….one of the rewards is FREE COUPONS! These coupons constantly change- so there is always something new!

5. Shop It To Me

It is a personal shopping service. This is such an EASY way to earn FREE Gift cards to your favorite stores. The have a terrific referral program. All your friends have to do is sign up (no purchase required) to receive the daily emails from ShopItToMe and when 10 of your friends sign up- you get a FREE $20 to the store of your choice (from available- GAP, Old Navy, Starbucks, i-Tunes, Amazon, Whole Foods and more). How cool is that. There is not a commitment, you can always unsubscribe- but I don’t think you will.

The current offer: For every 10 friends you get to sign up, we’ll give you a $20 gift card! You can check it out here

6. Pampers Gifts to Grow

You do NOT need a baby to participate in Pampers Gifts to Grow Rewards program.  I have friends that do not have children that collect Pampers Gifts to Grow points. There are plenty of codes released online. (Though you do get points in packs of diapers as well).

The current selection of gift cards isn’t that fabulous…usually just one or two at a time…and they do change out ever so often…but a great way to earn other freebies too with minimal effort. you can sign up here now and receive 100 Free Bonus Points!

7. CrowdTap

Crowdtap lets you earn cash for rewards and charity for taking surveys, sampling new products and promoting your favorite brands. There are also some great “party” opportunities where you can apply to earn freebies at retailers like Old Navy. You will need to really be active on Crowdtap to earn those free gift cards…as the gift card point value to redeem for a gift card. You can check it out here

8. Ebates

The gift card “thing” from Ebates is a one time deal and is only for new members. For a limited time, you can select a *FREE $10 gift card to select stores when you join Ebates- Gift Card earned after first $25 purchase. (See Ebates for complete details).

Though the gift card is a one time thing, Ebates offers cash back at over 1,500 stores. There are no points to redeem, no forms to mail in, and no fees. Stores pay Ebates a sales commission for sending shoppers their way, and Ebates uses the commission to pay you cash back. It is a great way to get a little extra back. I have personally been a member since 2008. You can check it out here

9. SavingStar

SavingsStar is a paperless way of saving with eCoupons that link to your existing grocery and drug store loyalty cards. Here’s how it works: after a one-time registration of your store cards, saving is quick and easy. Simply click the eCoupons you want on savingstar.com or our iPhone or Android apps and the will link your eCoupons to all of your registered store cards. When you use your card at checkout like you normally do, your savings are automatically added to your SavingStar account.

(Note: your grocery bill will stay the same.) Once your savings reach $5, you can pick your payout from a deposit into your bank or PayPal account, an Amazon gift card, or a donation to American Forests. You can get more info here

10. Jingit

Well…Jingit is not your traditional gift card…but I thought it was worth mentioning- especially if you are a Walmart shopper. You can use your earnings to buy music at music.me or you can get a Jingit Visa Debit Card after you have at least $3 in earnings. You can watch Jingit ads on your computer or on with the Jingit mobile app. Then answer easy survey questions about the ad you just viewed. You can also “Check-In” with Jingit and scan products while at Walmart you can earn more money! (but this is not required) There is a $10.00 weekly earning limit but you can raise it to $15.00 by sharing Jingit with friends via Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. You can get more details here

Remember the sooner you get started, the sooner you can be scoring those free gift card offers!

I also want to note…these details/promotions are subject to change at anytime. This is the most accurate information I could find at the time of my original posting (10/25/12). With any offer, you will want to read all the details over on the company’s site for all the details and most accurate info.

I personally participate in all these programs on varying levels with the exception of Savings Star.

Question for you….so you use MyPoints and Ebates? I haven’t used My Points, but have used Ebates. Looks like they are fairly similar? Do you get points other ways on MyPoints that is worth your time? Is the point system comparable? Thanks.

Rachel that is a great question. I use Swagbucks on FF and MyPoints on IE. I have the “toolbar” for each. I rarely use IE anymore….so it has been a while since I have earned anything from MP. You are right in that MP is very similar to Ebates…it is kind of like a Swagbucks/Ebates hybrid in a way. I use Ebates more than MyPoints. I think a good strategy is to mostly focus on one…remember Ebates is only the cash back…you can’t “earn” gift cards except for the sign-up bonus. My current strategy is currently Swagbucks + Ebates…hope that helps! -Jessica

Thanks for the info. I used Ebates, but found shop at home had more stores and usually better amounts, as well as listing any available online promo codes. My last check was $123, although we just moved and I was ordering ALOT of stuff online. But maybe I’ll check out My Points.
Also, love the link to freebies4mom for Jingit. I signed up months ago and didn’t use it because there never seemed to be ads, but now I’m already maxed out for the week and have gotten a couple of people doing it. Such an easy and quick return.

          Hi Rachel,

Yes, I have heard some negative things about SAH…I have a good relationship with Ebates….so I can feel good about using and promoting Ebates. Yes, Heather is great! I am glad you enjoy her site. -Jessica
