One of the questions I get asked most often both personally and professionally is “How do you save on beauty products?”.
Whether you like high end cosmetics or drugstore brands, you can save money if you shop smart. So for those beauty lovers on a budget, here are…
5 Ways to Save on Beauty Products
1. SALE + Coupons = Big Savings
Does your local store have your favorite brand of lipstick or mascara on sale? Check and see if there is a coupon available. In most cases you CAN use coupons on sale items. Getting a little bit technical here…but there are 2 types of coupons- STORE coupons and MANUFACTURERS Coupons. Most stores will allow you to “stack” or use both on a single qualifying item.
Recently, Ulta had All Maybelline Cosmetics priced 40% Off!
There was a $3.50 off $10 or more printable Ulta STORE coupon and a $1.00 Off Any Maybelline Lip Product (Excluding Baby Lips) printable MANUFACTURERS coupon.
Maybelline SuperStay Lip Ultimate was on sale for $5.39 (Reg $8.99). If you had purchased 2 of these lipsticks and used the Ulta Coupon and (2) of the $1 off manufactures coupons, you could have received $17.98 worth of lip stick for only $5.28 or $2.64 each!
You can also so similar deals at Walgreens, Rite Aid, CVS and Target.
You can check for printable beauty coupons here. (You can sort by “Personal Care”)
2. Buy During a “Free Gift with Purchase” Promotion
Many Department Stores love to run special limited time promotions. If you like higher end brands, if you can hold off for a Free Gift with Product purchase, you can score a great deal.
Recently, Boscovs was offering a FREE Clinique Gift (7 piece & $70 Value) with Your $27 Clinique Purchase. That means you pick up an item or two during this promotion you would have scored 7 FREE beauty items.
I recommend checking with your local department stores to find out when you can expect a Free GWP offer from your favorite beauty line.
3. Join a Beauty Rewards Program
Some companies offer a free rewards program (or a free version). This is a great way to earn some beauty extras for the beauty purchases you are already making. Plus, some programs perks like free or discounted products for your birthday.
4. Subscribe to A Beauty Box
If you love beauty products- especially trying new beauty products, then a monthly beauty box subscription may just be for you. Most beauty boxes offer a combination of full size or deluxe sample sizes. Most subscriptions are very reasonably priced and because they want you to try the product and want to come back for more, you can get a lot of value for not a lot of buck.
Most Beauty boxes vary in price from $10-$25 a month. Most do require a monthly subscriptions, but most allow you to cancel at any time.
Also, many beauty box companies offer special promotions- like a your first box for FREE or a Free product when you sign up.
Also, once you are a member you can earn some great perks for purchasing select products or reviewing items from your beauty box.
Here are some beauty boxes for you to check out with current offers:

5. Make Your Own Beauty Products
Another way to save is to make your own beauty items. I am a HUGE fan of making my own body scrubs. If you have ever priced the commercial scrubs on the market you will know why….they are OUTRAGEOUSLY priced! I have found I can make a similar scrub for pennies on the dollar and I know exactly what goes into the product. I have also made my own hair masks, face masks and lip gloss.
