As you have probably gathered, I love to make homemade body scrubs (I have a list of those below). Homemade beauty products intrigue me. I decided to make an all natural homemade face mask. I opted to try an Avocado Face Mask because of the nourishing properties of avocado.
I have fairly sensitive skin so I wanted something gentle. I did like this mask for my face. It didn’t sting or pull. My face just felt moisturized and soft after I removed the mask. I also used this mask on my hands and I was really happy the results.
I tried this on my hair…and I really didn’t care for it. Maybe it was just me. My hair is in really good condition right now thanks to my fabulous hair stylist Judy! (You can follow her Pinterest page here) You could always give it a try on your hair since you will have plenty left over.
What You Need:
1 ripe avocado
2 tbsp of honey
1/3 – 1/2 cups of plain yogurt
1 tsp of fresh lemon juice
Mix and mash all ingredients together. (Makes about 4 masks)
Apply a generous layer to clean skin. Leave on for 15 minutes and then rinse with lukewarm water.
I have read that you can leave this out at room temp for about a week in a tightly sealed container. Have you met me? (In case you haven’t…I am the kind of gal with a can of disinfectant in one hand and a meat thermometer in the other….ok…that is an exaggeration….but it makes me nervous to leave perishables out…even if I am not eating them.)
I used my mask once and then refrigerated what was left in a tightly sealed container. When I went to use the Avocado Face Mask again, I just let the mask come up to room temp. Even though the mask was fine this way in my opinion, I like this mask best fresh.
Since this mask uses perishable ingredients, you will want to use your own discretion and nose to make these calls. As always if you are allergic to any of the ingredients, you will not want to use the mask. You may also want to test a small area on your body prior to applying the mask to your face.
