Make Your Own Gardener’s Hand Scrub

I first came across the recipe for Gardener’s Hand Scrub a few years ago. If you are into homemade scrubs, this is not going to be for you. I have to say I tried to improve on the original recipe and failed. Sometimes the original is just the best. I really like the texture of the original recipe.

You only need TWO items to make this scrub. This scrub is super easy and inexpensive to make . It makes a great gift too- especially for teacher’s appreciation or mother’s day! I always keep a jar by the kitchen sink.

What You Need:

Granulated Sugar (fine)

Moisturizing Dish Soap (like Dawn with Olay Dishwashing Liquid)

Container. (I found my container for $1 at Target)

How much of what you need will depend on the container you are filling. Fill your container 2/3 full of sugar and 1/3 full of dishwashing liquid. (Give or take. Make it to your personal texture preference.)

Just combine the ingredients and stir well. Fill your container(s). Enjoy!

Currently there is a Dawn Printable Coupon for $.25 Off! (For my couponers, you will know this will double up to $.50 off at some stores). (Coupon is under household)

There are also some Sugar Coupons here.

Make Your Own Solid Perfume Lockets

Here is an easy DIY- Make Your Own Solid Perfume Lockets. Of course, you can use this tutorial to just make the solid perfume.

If you have any perfume samples around this project is a great way to use those up!  You could also use essential oil if you prefer.

This would make a great handmade gift. (I made the cameo using washi tape, paper and Mod Podge)

As you can see I have a ton of sample perfumes….

What You Need:

Carrier Oil (Grapeseed, Jojoba, Almond)

Lockets or other heat safe container

(double boiler, spoons, glass jars)

You will need equal parts oil and beeswax. I did one tablespoon of each to fill 5 lockets and I had some left over. My lockets were very shallow.

You can purchase beeswax in blocks or pellets. I think the pellets would be easier.

Add you oil and beeswax to the double boiler and stir gently. The wax will melt quickly and you will need to move fast.

I very carefully transferred my mixture into a small glass jar. It is hot, hot, hot! So you will want to use caution! I quickly added the fragrance. (How much you choose to add is up to you. It will depend on the strength of the perfume and your personal preference. You may have to play around will it since there is no set in stone formula.  I used a half a vile.)

Quickly and carefully fill ONE SIDE of your locket. You do not want to overfill or the locket will not close.

Allow the mixture to set up and you have a lovely solid perfume locket. I used these lockets. They are inexpensive, but they are very, very shallow and I would select a deeper locket if I decide to do this craft again. You can find more options here.

DIY Beauty: Oil Cleansing Method

Last year when I asked my friends if they had any homemade beauty DIYs they would recommend, my friend Laura told me about this homemade oil cleanser she loves called the oil cleansing method.

The recipe is simple- you use a blend of Castor Oil and another vegetable oil (like Sunflower Oil or Olive Oil) Laura prefers the combination of castor and olive oil. (This is the version I tried).

She recommends playing with the castor oil to olive oil ratio. She ended up with 7/3 parts castor to olive oil. The great thing is you can fine tune it depending on skin type.
