DIY Cat Toe Flats

Here is a fun and easy DIY- Make Your Own Cat Toe Flats. This is a fun project for a cat lover. This is also great for a kids shoe. You can also apply the same concept and make a cap toe flat instead of a cat toe flat. You would of course just want to forgo the ears and face.

I think they turned out pretty cute and I made these for a fraction of what I would pay in a boutique. I was able to find the shoes on clearance for $5.08 at Target.  I already had the other items. (I bought the shoes on 1/31/15 and there were probably 20 pairs on clearance.)

Directions:.

Step 1 Tape off your cat toe area. Make sure your lines are straight and that the each shoe matches.

Step 2: Add your first coat of paint. As you can see above….it is going to take several coats.

Allow to dry and continue adding coats until you achieve your desired color coverage

Step 3: Once dry, remove the tape and clean up any lines. You can use a small amount of nail polish remover or paint thinner….just be careful as you do not want to discolor the shoe.

Step 4: Paint the ears. I just free-handed the ears, but you could tape those off as well. This will more than likely take a few coats to achieve the coverage you desire.

Step 5: Once your cat face is complete, you can add the eyes, nose and whiskers. I also outlined my cat in gold paint. If you make a mistake grab a damp paper towel and gently wipe off your mistake and add another base coat. Allow to dry and try again.

Since my shoes are quite shiny I opted to coat the cat faces with a couple layers of GLOSSY Mod Podge. Keep your layers thin. Make sure you allow to dry between layers.

Vóila (Wah-la)! You have a pair of Cat Toe Flats. These should hold up pretty good and long as you are gentle with them. You will need to allow about a day for this project because it requires multiple steps and layers of paint and mod podge. The actual time invested is minimal. I had a hard time getting the eyes and nose like I wanted…but other than that you should be able to make these in an hour or so.

      Hi Madie!

Thank you!!!!! Fluff is such a sweetie. She is a funny girl who is always in the mix. Whenever I break out the DIY stuff she can’t help herself. She is about 2 years old and has 2 dog brothers. We have two Senior Citizen Basset Hounds- Hank and Flash. She was a rescue. My boys (human and dogs) love her and she loves them. This is my 2nd Siamese…well I had a silver tabby growing up who was 1/2 Siamese. He was my doll baby. They are an interesting breed for sure. So glad to hear from a fellow cat lover. -Jessica

These are simply adorable! Or may I say simply “purrfect”! I don’t know if I would have the courage — or chicness — to wear them, but I admire them and your wonderful work all the same. Smiles, Linda at Paper Seedlings.

      Hi Ashley,

Haha. If you had my dogs, you would be a cat person. 🙂 (I have 2 senior citizen Basset hounds with issues.) So glad you like the shoes. It was a fun project. Thanks for hosting such a fun party for us each week! -Jessica
