This is such an inexpensive and easy DIY! I know some of you are already thinking forward to the holidays and this would make a great homemade gift for the dog lover!
You can pick up pretty much everything you need for the project at your local craft store. I highly recommend taking along a craft store coupon. I found the adorable dog drawer knob pull at Hobby Lobby. I think it was around $5 and I had a 40% Off coupon…so I paid around $3. (Of course you could use any round know large enough to hold a leash for this project). I found a pack of 4 wooden plaques for $4….so $1 each!
What You Need:
Door Knob Pull
Hardware for hanging the plaque
First, you will need to drill a hole in the plaque. (Or in my case…have your incredibly handy husband do it for you.) You may also need to shorten the screw on the knob.
After you have drilled the hole, you will want to paint the plaque. I did three coats. Allow each coat to dry before applying the next.
Once completely dry, with the side of a pencil press the scrapbook paper into the edges of the plaque so it will make a slight impression on the paper. You will need these lines to cut the paper precisely.
Apply a coat of Glossy ModPodge to the wood and apply the scrapbook paper. Position the paper and gently press down. Apply an additional coat to the top of the paper and around the sides of the wood. This will make the wood glossy. Make sure to work out any bubbles. Allow to dry and apply an additional coat of ModPodge.
Above you can see the plaque once the final coat of ModPodge has dried.
Add your knob and the hanging hardware and you are done!
You have a super cute dog leash holder for around $5!
