This DIY Flip Flops tutorial is SO easy. No sewing required! It does take a little time and patience. You can totally make this on the cheap. (I have under $2 in these.) This is one of my “dollar store crafts”, because I made this DIY with items I found at my local Dollar Tree.
This is a great craft for preteens and teens.
Flip Flops (I paid $1 for these)
Mod Podge (I found the small bottle at my local Dollar Tree for $1)
Cut the fabric into strips.
Apply a small amount of Mod Podge to the band of the flip flop. Start at the center. Wrap the fabric and press. You do not need to apply Mod Podge to the entire length of the band because you will wrap the fabric to secure it. Wrap the fabric around the length of the band. This may take a couple attempts before you get the feel of it.
Wrap until you come to the end and then thread the fabric through the bottom as seen above. Trim any excess fabric and return the “button” to the correct position.
Once both sides are complete, apply a small amount of Mod Podge to the part of the band that goes in between your toes. Wrap a small piece around this piece and then secure it the same way you did the bands.
Next, trim small strips of fabric to the size of the sides of the shoe.
Apply a generous coat of Mod Podge. (I found the foam soaks it up.) Apply the fabric and press gently. Once fabric is in place apply a coat of Mod Podge to the outside of the fabric. Allow to dry.
I used a bit of super glue and applied a button to the center of the band. That’s all! Super easy. I think they turned out pretty cute!
