Here is an EASY and super inexpensive Valentine’s Day Gift Idea for your Kiddos to give their classmates this year.
You can make these up for about $.50 each if you have a Dollar Tree near you.
I made up a batch of Homemade Playdough with a TOTALLY new recipe. I will include my new recipe as well as the other 2 recipes I have featured on the blog. You could always BUY playdough if you don’t want to make your own. My kids are not picky…the love all things playdough.
What You Need (& my cost):
Small Plastic Treat Bags ($1 for 24 bags)
Valentine’s Day Ribbon $1
Heart/Lip Shaped Cookie Cutters (Pack 5 for $1 or $.20 each)
Super Soft Homemade Playdough Recipe:
Box of Cornstarch ($1)
Unscented Bottle of Lotion ($1)
1 Pack of Strawberry Kool-Aid ($.20)
All Purpose Flour (pennies)
You should be able to pick up everything at your local Dollar Tree. I would say you should be able to make about 8-10 treat bags per batch of Playdough.
I know this sounds like an Odd recipe and I had my doubts… but it worked…well once I added the flour. My oldest son said “This is really soft playdough.” It is. It does have the classic playdough texture…there is something just a bit different about it.
Dump your box of corn starch into a large bowl and then start adding your lotion. I found this recipe after my trip to the Dollar Tree, so I just used the lotion I had on hand….it did take about a whole bottle. Mix, mix and mix. I added a couple tablespoons of flour to firm it up a bit and then I added one pack of Strawberry Kool-Aid for the nice pink color. I recommend grabbing the unscented lotion so your playdough will smell like the Kool-Aid flavor. Since I had Baby Lotion on hand…well our play dough smelled of Baby.
I do not know how long this recipe will keep…but I would think it would last a while. I would recommend using this for older kids who will not be tempted to sample the play dough…if you have a taste tester on your hands you can use this Homemade Playdough Recipe or this recipe for Homemade Kool-Aid Playdough.
